みなさん、2011 年の春学期(がっき)も明日でおわりますね。日本語のべんきょうはどうでしたか? たいへんだったと思いますが、みんなとてもがんばりましたね。1年生の学生は、秋学期よりずっと上手になりました。今は、レストランで何かちゅうもんしたり、デパートで買いものをしたり、日本語...
Language:
ReplyDeleteI think that a good blog has a mix of Japanese and English. Using Japanese of course allows us to practice the language and form our own sentences. Making mistakes is essential to learning. However, I think using English allows us to write more descriptive blogs and enhances the Japanese sentences since we do not know a lot of vocabulary yet. Adding spaces between words, although not necessary, helps to make it easier to read.
Content:
I think that adding pictures makes the blog much more appealing. As a reader, I want to know what the picture is about, so I am more excited to read the sentence. Since it takes a while to understand Japanese sentences, it is very intimidating to just see long paragraphs of Japanese. Good blogs are also relevant to the assignment; some people often go off on tangents which makes it difficult to understand what they are saying since we have not learned a lot yet. Extremely random statements are hard to follow.
Comments:
I think good blogs are ones that invoke many comments. Good comments are ones that respond to the blogger's content with effective or interesting feedback or that initiate further conversation. It is also nice when people respond to the questions that you ask them.
Layout:
The font should be large enough to read and the color of the text should appropriately go with the background. Appealing colors or backgrounds enhance the blog and make it more enticing. Cool features are always nice, but most importantly, the font needs to be large!
Frequency:
A blog should be updated as least as often as assignments are required, but small in between posts can be interesting as well.
Other:
When blogger's use Japanese vocabulary that we have not covered in class, it is very helpful when they include the English translation. Specifically, it is not helpful at all when blogger's put in kanji since we cannot even sound out the word as if it were a foreign word in katakana. Furthermore, I want to emphasize the benefit of pictures. I often respond to blogger's who include pictures on their blogs, because I am more inclined to read their posts versus those who simply have long paragraphs of Japanese. Videos are also very interesting.

ReplyDeleteReadability
Sometimes, we find that there are too many Hiragana/Katakana words on blogs that haven't been learned in class yet. As a result, much more time is spent than is necessary.
Comments
It would be nice if the comments were made partially in にほんご and partially in English. We are still at the point in which it takes much longer for us to process what the comments say if they're all in ひらがな or カタカナ。
Content
It's nice to have outside information, whether it be images, videos, music clips, or random thoughts that someone has in a given day. It's nice to have a little variety in the post rather than just the meager Japanese we know.
Frequency:
Frequency doesn't have the biggest factor. I think entertainment is more of an important factor.
Layout:
Layout isn't much of an issue either, as long as it's formatted in such a way that it can be read easily.
What makes a good blog:
ReplyDelete•Visuals (pictures, videos, etc).
•No big chunks of text (break it up into sections with pictures.
•Put definitions of words no one knows yet.
•Ideally once a week, minimum of twice a month.
•Put name on blog.
•Content should be semi Japanese related.
•Everyone should respond to comments, but try to continue conversation when responding to comment rather than just reply.

Layout is least important, just as long as it is not jarring. The content should be relevant to the blog, but it is ultimately up to the blogger as far as what he/she posts. Also, the complexity of the language should be appropriate for both the readers and the blogger; the blogger can make a few grammatical mistakes, but not too many. Posts should be made about once a week, or more if something interesting happens. Comments are important to keep people talking about what they blog and read. Pictures and videos are good as extras when they would help, but random photos would not help the blog.

What makes a good blog? It is not one aspect of the blog, but all aspects come together to form a quality blog.
ReplyDeleteLanguage: The language must be correct or at least understandable so the point can be made in the blog. If there are mistakes, it is nice to see editing marks and go back and fix the problem. The language should not be over anyone's heads, like posting Kanji when your audience is only in the first few weeks of Japanese.
Content: Should be relevant to the blog, while at the same time peaking the interest of the readers.
Comments: The blogger has a responsibility to keep the conversation going and respond to comments and ask questions on other blogs. However, the questions should be derived from correct reading of the blog.
Layout: The layout should be attractive, but it must be a layout and nothing more. The layout is not the main attraction of your blog. The blog must still be easy-to-read.
Frequency: This is the killer of many blogs of individuals. The blog should be updated once every two weeks.

The language is important and we decided that it must be at least coherent enough to understand what they are trying to say. The content should be relevant to the blog but at the same time its up to the blogger to come up with something unique to write about. As far as commenting is concerned we decided that it wasn't necessarily an essential part of the blog but it could add a new level of depth pending on what people post on it. For the layout and any pictures or videos we thought that it didn't really matter as long as the layout wasn't distracting and the pictures/videos were still related. However, I do think that a well placed picture or video does add quite a lot to a blog post but they aren't always necessary. Also, as long as the blog is updated somewhat regularly(approx. once a week?) then that would be adequate.

-Being able to understand everything that is written about
ReplyDelete-Content is interesting, incorporating course material discussed in class
-Content has some Japanese theme or subject
-Making interesting comments allows for furthering discussion of blog, as well as the returning of comments on your own blog
-Posting on your own and not just when せんせい creates a blog assignment might let you write about more interesting things.
-Adding things other than just text, such as pictures from the internet (personal pictures are better!), videos, or music links will make your blog more appealing.

Overall, contents and writings should be related to common interests for most people. Moreover, when using Japanese, writings should be concise and understandable. Making funny comments on others' can lead bloggers to visit mine. Blog should be updated frequently with interesting contents, pictures, and videos to make visitors to come regularly.
